I keep thinking about a post written by Charlene Li titled "BlogHer and the culture of generosity." In it and another post linked from it, she claims that the best blogs give a lot away to their readers: tools, freebies, links. The best bloggers are passionate about their craft and are willing to give — of their ideas, their skills, their most personal expression.
It follows that blogging success in part stems from generosity. So will this "culture of generosity" spread throughout the blogosphere and become a constant of it? Could generosity and other altruistic traits become viral here (when it seems that they are sometimes in short supply in society)? As the blogosphere continues to evolve, will shared abundance become the prevailing spirit of its community? Always the optimist, I would like to think so.
Is the blogosphere on the verge of a tipping point here, where better and better blogs will be springing up? It will be interesting to see what happens. I feel energized being a part of this frontier community. The blogosphere could become an even more major, exciting, fun, influential destination — but only if its participants, especially its leaders, are extremely generous.
