It's official. I'm a National Novel Writing Month 2006 Participant (see groovy new participant icon at right). I'll be going for win #2 starting this November 1st. (Here's my post re: exhilarating win #1 if you're interested.)
Since the story is still not done, I plan on writing the sequel to last year's work-still-in-progress. Over the past year, images and ideas related to my novel kept popping into my head. I would be doing dishes or daydreaming, and I'd have a brainstorm — I'd "see" my characters doing something or "hear" bits of their conversations. Then I'd write these insights down on incredibly small post-it notes — the only ones I could find when I had these flashes — and then I'd lose them. Usually I'd find them again, and that would just prompt more note-taking on minuscule pieces of washed-out yellow paper.
So now I'm organizing all of my brilliant, novel-ly post-its, and preparing a loose outline to use — until my characters take over, as they usually do, and fill me in on what they've really been up to the past year. And hey, I want to know how this story ends! So with November's beginning, I'll continue my trek into the rewarding unknown.
And because I won't have enough writing to do in November, I'll be blogging the whole dern thing. Expect sleep-deprivation-induced ramblings, random witticisms of the writerly kind, and the occasional brilliant novel excerpt.
It will be hilarious, guaranteed. A 30-day roller coaster ride. Buckle up.
