In Australia we must be a bit delayed because I remembering watching the adventures of Gumby every afternoon after school in the '80s.


You all were definitely NOT delayed. Apparently, Gumby began in the mid-1950s, and the original episodes had a world-wide resurgence in popularity in the 1980s. Eddie Murphy then famously parodied him in 1982 on Saturday Night Live. Even now there are Gumby references continually on TV, in movies and in advertising.

It's interesting that Gumby seems to have such timeless, cross-cultural staying power.
