Deep in this digital age, the blackboard, a.k.a. the chalkboard, is slowly becoming extinct. Teachers increasingly share their lessons via laptops and projection screens. At companies and hospitals, writing with erasable marker on a white board is commonplace; messy chalk dust hasn't menaced dark suits or sick patients in ages.
Yet above is an apartment's kitchen done entirely in blackboard paint and covered with grocery lists, recipes, and cupboard label-drawings.
Another idea: a blackboard wall would be great for dashing down sudden blasts of inspired writing. Perhaps I can paint a blackboard wall or area near my desk. Also, I just discovered liquid chalk, which creates dustless scribbles and doesn't disappear if someone accidentally brushes against it.
Writing down ideas by hand, and then having them around to see, can be a very powerful step in any creative process. I also like the idea of turning part of the home into a shared canvas or notebook. An area like this would be a huge creativity spark for me.
My next home improvement project is going to be fun...

I'd say the biggest problem with blackboard-painted walls is that they are, in fact, black. Which is not a color I'd choose to decorate with, in most cases. I've considered it for a section of wall in the kids' space, though. And I've also seen tabletops and worksurfaces painted with the stuff, which would be awesome for a creative play place. As for the liquid chalk -- I'd always wondered how the coffee places got their signs to look so nice!

Stace — Good insight about the black. Thanks for that. I like your table top idea!
RE: liquid chalk — coffee places' secret is so out of the bag. ;)

I love the idea of having a creative thinking space on the walls or on a coffee table! Excellent!
