More info about the Z-List

Seth Godin created a lens for the Z-List on Squidoo. It's titled, "Blogs you might want to check out, but haven't heard of." As of this posting, there are more than 300 blogs on the list.

Luc over at Mindblob has written a great post about "The Spirit of the Z-List." It accurately captures its start, community-building, consequences and questions coming up about the whole Z-List meme. And BTW, I wouldn't have known about Mindblob if it weren't for this meme.

As I reflect on the Z-List, its most useful and outstanding feature to me is that it is creating a cohesive community in the blogosphere. Bloggers who didn't know each other before this meme have now been introduced. Also, many readers are getting wind of blogs that they didn't know about previously.

I certainly didn't expect to be writing about something like this over the holidays. Wow.

The Z-List found me!

Here's where the Z-List started. Thanks to Mack at Viral Garden for creating this — what a community builder. And what a great list of blogs to read! I'm excited to check them out.

Here's how it works. Instructions are from Design Sojourn:

What YOU can do is simply create a new post on your blog, but CUT AND PASTE the list I have below, and then ADD any blogs you feel aren’t getting their due either. It can be 1 blog, or a hundred (or none if you simply want to repost the same list), but the idea is, find those great blogs that, for whatever reason, you feel aren’t getting their due, link-wise.

Then after you leave your post, the next blogger will do the same thing, cut and paste YOUR list, and add THEIR blogs to the list, then repost it. Add the same instructions in your post that the next blogger should cut and paste YOUR list, and add any blogs they feel should be on it to THEIR list. The list will get increasingly long, and all the blogs will get a sort of reverse ‘pyramid-affect’ of link-love.
